The holiday season should be a magical time filled with excitement, joy, and fun!  It’s also meant to be a time for resting, for spending time with friends and family, and for creating lasting memories…

Yet so many of us seem to get caught up with seemingly never-ending to-do lists and let ourselves become overwhelmed rather than rejuvenated for the New Year. We often overpack our schedules and worry about forgetting the tiniest detail, because we worry our loved ones will be missing something and that their holidays will be anything less than perfect.

Does this scenario sound familiar to you?  If so, you’re not alone, but more importantly, it doesn’t have to be this way!  Everyone deserves a break during the holidays and that includes you.  It’s so important to take care of yourself so that you can feel as good inside as you look on the outside.

There are many simple ways to allow yourself moments of relaxation and the time to step back to simply enjoy the beauty of a few snowflakes dancing down to the ground while sipping a hot cocoa.

In this post, we are going to share our very best tips for relaxing holiday self-care.

We often make excuses instead of making time for ourselves.  The good news is that “making time” is a skill you can learn! If you’re looking to spend a more peaceful and enjoyable Holiday season this year, take a moment to read our tips on how you can allow yourself moments of peace and calm despite the hustle and bustle of the busiest time of the year.

These are 3 holiday self-care tips to help you feel more relaxed.

Nap, sleep, repeat

Go for it, give yourself that permission you’ve been waiting for!  We promise you’ll love it, and we encourage you to continue using this self-care tip once the holidays have passed.

Before getting started, you’ll have to let go of any feelings of guilt you might be experiencing.  Replace these feelings with positive ones, like happiness and peace.  It can be helpful to keep your end goal in mind here: feeling rested.  Think about how you could feel if you just gave in and tried to allow yourself to melt away into comfort even just for a few moments.

A nap doesn’t have to last very long for it to be beneficial; even a short nap can help.  In fact, the recommended amount shut eye during the day is about 20 minutes. Research has shown that napping can help boost memory, mental agility, lift your mood, and ease stress.  The extra sleep can even help strengthen your immune system!

Essential Oils

Essential oils are wonderful for reducing stress and anxiety naturally.  They can also be used to boost energy, to soothe aching muscles, and to help you have a restful night’s sleep. Incorporating essential oils into your daily routine is quick and easy. If you feel as if you can only fit in one single self-care tip this holiday season, this is a great place to start!

Because there are so many ways to use them, you can really let your creativity flow.  For example, you can use a few drops of an energy-boosting scent, like orange essential oil to enjoy the benefits while crossing off one of the items on your to-do list!

If you’re looking for a nostalgic holiday scent that can help soothe tired muscles, try peppermint oil.  Mix with an unscented carrier oil and you’ve created a holiday massage oil!

We create all our scents using 100% natural essential oils.  One of our favourite soothing scents is lavender, which you can find in many of our products, including our lavender body lotion.  Simply massage into your skin after an evening bath to enjoy a restful sleep.

Exercise

It’s no secret that exercise is a must for maintaining a healthy lifestyle.  Implementing physical activity into your life is not only important for helping you look healthy, but it also plays a very big role in promoting a healthy mind.

During the holidays, you might feel as if you are running a marathon already but running around in a stressful panic is no way to look after your mental health.

Try finding time to get outside for a walk, a jog, or a game of hockey with the kids instead.  The fresh air mixed with the exercise will help ease off some of the stress you might be feeling, and you’ll be left feeling refreshed and ready to tackle your next project.

We truly hope these tips will inspire you to include yourself on your to-do list during the holidays this year!
